Blood donation process

Each donation is preceded by a thorough veterinary examination to ensure that your cat is healthy. A blood sample is taken to determine the blood type and to check the general health status.

A total of around 90-120 minutes should be allowed for the cat's blood donation.

‍

Blood collection:

☐ The actual donation usually comes from the vein in the neck (jugular vein)

☐ Duration of blood collection: approx. 10-25 minutes

☐ Cats receive light sedation to minimise stress

☐ The puncture site on the neck is shaved and disinfected

☐ Approximately 7 ml of blood per kg of body weight is taken

‍

‍

After donating:

☐ A bandage is placed around the neck, which can be removed the next day

☐ We offer your cat something to drink and a ration of food

‍

‍

Frequency:

☐ Donations can be made approximately every 6 months

‍

Benefits and importance

☐ Every blood donor receives a general check-up and the annual vaccination free of charge

☐ Before the first donation: a free blood test and blood typing

☐ You make a valuable contribution to other animals in need
