Veterinary treatment costs in Germany

As in human medicine, veterinary medicine in Germany has a fee schedule: the German Fee Schedule for Veterinarians (GOT). It sets binding rules for the fees that may be charged for treating an animal.

A veterinary invoice generally includes treatment and material costs. The amount depends on the time and work involved and is calculated within the GOT framework. You can find information about the GOT on the website of the German Veterinary Association (Bundestierärztekammer).

More complex or time-consuming treatments, and treatment outside normal opening hours—for example at night, on weekends or on public holidays—are billed at correspondingly higher rates.
